Introducing Me & My Page!
Hi Girly Pops!
Welcome to my page, my blog, my online diary, whatever one may want to call it. I am SOO excited to start this journey, hoping that my love for reading and writing blossoms as it did not long ago.
For those who are new don’t know me, my name is Jessica, but a lot of people just call me Jess.! I was born and raised in a small town in east Texas, which I have recently moved back to. I am a Christian, and while I will obviously keep my religion close to my heart and try to spread the word when appropriate, this blog is an open and honest space with no judgement invited.
Now to the juicy parts: I have a B.A. in English with a minor in philosophy which I earned from Texas A&M University. (Gig ‘Em!) Since I was young, I have loved reading, but in high school I truly discovered what I love even more- writing.
In high school, I did mostly journalism writing, and the standard English class essays that all teachers assign (for good measures). But once I got to college, I began writing all sorts of things. My college professors opened me up to so many different types of work, art, and I grew to appreciate writing for more than just the surface benefits. I began to write in my personal journal often, finding freedom of writing for myself. In a classroom, I was always light up to write. I found liberation in how I could turn hours of research into a 10-page essay full of productive thoughts, many of which I would long for the public to see and truly understand. I began to realize a lot of the reasons I loved writing were not only because I loved to learn, but because I loved communicating in discussions which seemly touch people’s daily lives. Sitting in my naturalism and realism English classroom, listening to my peers give feedback on books such as “McTeague” by Frank Norris and “House of Mirth” by Edith Wharton, I began to finally realize that I enjoyed these books and writing about them so dearly because they touched people’s lives. While some books may be out of reality, people are still able relate to the characters, see themselves in them. They are able to critique societies, of the past, present, and future, and then apply those critiques to their personal lives.
That classroom showed me a lot. It showed me a newfound favorite novel genre. It showed me true freedom in writing. It showed me how writing (and reading said writing) truly connects us. It has been working for how many centuries now? And I have no doubt in my mind that our society needs to find beauty in it again, in order for us to keep it working for the centuries to come. I hope that this blog can be my first small step in solving the issue I see at hand (the raging literacy problems that continue to rise, especially in our future generations).
Anyways, I cannot wait to continue this journey, to spew creativity, to spread truth and important discourse, and most importantly, to just have fun. Feel free to reach out with any blog ideas or recommendations in the future, every thought helps! Your support through this journey means the world to me.
Bye for now Girly Pops! (And any guy pops that may join?!!)
With love,
JessC
